7 Days to go!

When I made the decision to try to get into the team for the Commonwealth Ultra distance and marathon running championships back in January, I never believed that 1) i would get into the team and 2) that the following nine months would come around so quickly and with so much vigour. So here we are with 7 days to go to lining up on the start line the summer a distant memory and the start of the cross country season a mere two weeks hence. Now if I were to say that I hadn't run in two weeks, I have aches in every possible location you would no doubt be somewhat confused and bemused. Don't be, I have been pool running for two hours per day and cross training for two hours per day....I know...a little strange but essential I think to preserve myself for the race. 33 miles is a long way...in fact it's a heck of a long way and I believe that my approach to the previous two weeks in the run up to the event itself has been essential to ensure that I am there. At 41 years of age, I never could have hoped to have been selected to run for my country yet again and to do so in such a prestigious event is just wonderful for me. The prospect of lining up on the start line alongside the best in the Commonwealth is almost overwhelming but I am taking it in my stride. Come Saturday evening when I collect the the red kit will be simply amazing and I will be so proud as I always am. As for the race, well to be honest, I will give my best and whilst it is highly unlikely I will be a contender I will be there. In years to come I will also be able to say 'I was there'.... So, the last blog before the race, now's the time to stand up and be counted folks.....maybe I'll see you there.....Tamster x
