Racing Time and The Train...
With a matter of a mere month until the first race of the Commonwealth ultra distance champs', I feel like I am in a race already! The race is not just to the event itself, but a race to ensure that I complete the training injury free. The last three months are now starting to take their toll on my body and the little niggles that I had at the start of the schedule seem to be becoming a little more painful. Whilst there is nothing to cause me any real concern, you begin to realise that weeks of 80, 90 & 100+ miles of training are both tiring and hard. Whilst I can't expect to run niggle free, I hope that I can stave off real injury and realise that my body has it's limitations. I am looking forward to the event without reservation and it can only be good for the image of north Wales. We now have a confirmed entry of 20+ teams from around the Commonwealth countries and the PR job being done by Mud, Sweat and Tears' editor Matt Ward is fantastic.......I understand now that the event is also to be televised, so I will have to make sure that I get my hair done in preparation (NOT!)..... On the racing front, I have had a busy couple of weeks, but having done the races, it just goes to show how you lose a little speed when training over higher mileages. It's great though to get out and do shorter distances but even better to see the faces of friends like Isobel Redfearn and Vicky Ronald, who I don't see often enough. I had good runs at the Llandudno 15km race (4th overall and 1st oldie) and Race the Train at Tywyn (7th overall and 2nd oldie) the latter being in dreadful conditions! The one bonus to the race though was that I beat the train (only by 6 seconds though!) Oh and congrats' to my coach Andy Walling (17th overall) and Richard Edwards who came in top 30! They were joined on the trip down by Helen and the girls which made the day fun and yet another excuse to have some nice food out afterwards........Onwards and upwards.....see you soon!
