Christleton 5k

It is a nice change to do a race in the evening, but following a very warm trip across to Chester for the annual 5k Christleton race I was a little apprehensive as to how hot it would be. Despite this both Neale and I lined up at the start and commented how humid it felt. Leanne from North Wales Road Runners was my only other club mate who had made the trip so we had the reputation of the club to maintain. Neale and I had decided to enter about 10 days earlier after speaking with Darren Blazier at the border league who said that it was a cracking race and attracted a high quality field. He wasn't wrong and we actually lucky to get an entry as a day later the race was shown as full on the UK results website. Darren wasn't wrong in his appraisal and there certainly was a high class entry. I enjoyed a steady run and was pleased with securing 1st Vet 35 and Leanne also secured 1st in the Under 20 category..a pretty productive night for the North Wales Road Runners! Neale wasn't quite as pleased as he had expected but didn't let the side down at all after finishing mid field.

It was also great to meet Jay Jennions at the event who I had become friends with through facebook, she was happy with a PB but paid for it when her calf let go at about 4k. She is also struggling with injury at the moment but to be fair to her she ran a very good race.

Today, (Saturday) I got out for my 10 miler to Llandudno, and as usual the injury manifested itself with a pain in my lower back and thigh. When Neale picked me up, we had a discussion about my injury and decided to go through to The Sweatshop in Hyde Greater Manchester where I had a great chat with Rachael who has also suffered with similar injuries. She showed me her own orthotics, and based on her experiences she persuaded me that I should give it longer with the inserts. To this end I decided on a change of shoe to a neutral Puma and when I put the insert into the trainer, it was strangely better than the Asics I have been wearing. When I got home I gave them a try on the running machine to see how they faired and I was quite pleased with the result. I am going to take my time with them as I know it will take a little time to get used to them. However, what else have I got to try in an attempt to rectify this on-going injury problem. Watch this space and I'll report on my progress........
