Coventry Concerns

I've gone and done it again....I've been so pre-occupied with getting right for Coventry that I haven't thought about my blog! After all, what's the point of keeping an on-line diary if I can't be bothered to keep it updated. So apologies to those of you who do read it occasionally and I promise to keep it regularly updated from now on. Over the past few weeks since Christleton, I have managed to keep on top of the injury in my side but it still gives me a little cause for concern. In the meantime, I've managed to secure a coach who has agreed to take me on and further my development. For the time being lets call him Jack. I have never ever listened to anyone insofar as my training is concerned, I wore four Welsh vests last year and I did this on my own with no help from anyone else. I was however reaching my limits and regularly hitting 70+ miles per week. The resultant injury was to be expected. Jack was absolutely flabbergasted at the mileage that I was putting in and immediately told me that if that's what I was doing, then I would die a death in running terms in the near future. His training philosophy is to say the least interesting and as such required a significant reduction in mileage and a foray into the world of speed work. As we speak he had put into place a regime which will allegedly bring me on leaps and bounds but me ever the pessimist remain to be convinced! However, Jack is incredibly experienced, he makes me listen, we speak and email daily and he even convinced me to take time off running completely albeit for a matter of days. I'm hoping that at some time in October, I will be making entries here showing remarkable progress (barring injury) and if I am, I will be singing his praises ...if I'm not ...then prepare for the consequences!!!
