Wrexham Rant

Saturday saw us travel to Wrexham for the penultimate round of the North Wales Cross Country league for 2007-8. Despite initially travelling to Brymbo thanks to a useless volkswagen sat-nav, we eventually arrived at the event to see a cracking turn out and a full team for both the men and women. I joined the ever present Vicky Ronald and Helenand we began the event on a nice footing with quite firm conditions underfoot.

Clare Martin took the lead from the gun closely followed by an Oswestry Olympian and then Marilyn Kitchen and Sarah Kleeman. I latched on to Sarah and managed to catch her for 100mts and spent the remainder of the race trying to pass. However, my previous weeks cold eventually caught up with me and I just couldn't muster the strength to pass Sarah. Indeed fair play to Sarah she found some great finishing pace to beat me by about 25mts but I was content with 5th place.

I've decided to make a decision on the Helsby half marathon which I'm due to run this weekend a bit later in the week, my injury to the hip has given me quite a lot of pain during the past week and has seen me miss out on a full week of training. I don't really want to go into the event unless I am fully fit and as it stands at the moment I am not 100%.
