Well, despite all of my efforts offer the past couple of weeks this niggling injury just doesn't seem to go away. For the first time ever, I was forced to decide not to compete in an event....I was absolutely gutted. It was the North Wales cross country championships held at Northop and even though I know that I coould have completed the course I was aware that I would pay for it over the following few days. That in turn would put back my recovery and maybe mess up the start to the season's internationals.
I'd even gone through all of my pre-race rituals the night before (not too much O.C.D.!) when I woke on Saturday morning I could feel the pull in the muscles so I told Neale that I wouldn't have competed. Anyway, it was the mature decision to make in the circumstances and I know it makes sense.
On a lighter note, Saturday evening saw us collect the alcoholics anonymous members Lee and Suzanne, and held to the Maesdu golf club for the annual North Wales Road Runners' presentation evening. It was a smashing night with good food and loads of members talking about their injuries! It seems that I am not the only one suffering at the moment, with Dave Nolan, Martin Green and many others all being affected by varying levels of injury. Despite this we all enjoyed a great time and I was honoured for the 2007 season with best lady runner and the veteran's prize.
We all played a quiz to round of the evening and with the help of Ian 'Smiler' s mum on the end of a mobile 'phone we even managed to win. Lee was over the moon to get a trophy for winning his group in the club championship and celebrated with Suzanne by getting bladder ed and making a half hearted attempt to do his 'monkey man' impression. God knows what he'll be like at his 40th in a couple of weeks time!
