Antics At Abergele

Cracking turn out for the Slaters Abergele '5' held on Sunday. Was a little concerned at the pains coming from my knee in the days running up to the event but I needn't have bothered. The entry list read like a who's who of women from the North Wales region and I knew that on the day it was going to be extremely competitive. From the gun, I was chasing Emma and Marilyn before the initial ascent to St George. I managed to drop Marilyn at about 1 mile but was mindful of her ability and allowed myself the occasional look around to see where she was. Emma was a little more difficult though. I tucked in about 15metres down on Emma hoping that she wouldn't notice that I was there and we traded paces for most of the first 4 miles, but as usual my ability to descend (or lack of it) let me down and as we arrived back at Abergele Emma had pulled away by 150 mts. Still I managed a 2nd place despite Marilyn's efforts to catch me and knocked over three minutes off the previous ladies best for V35! So, in summary 2nd Overall Abergele 5, 2nd Overall in the North Wales Champs' and 1st Overall V35..good days work really! Neale and I celebrated at 'Home Cookin' and he had to watch me as I tucked into tirramasu with extra cream and ice cream...who says training has to be hard.
