The 2nd round of the North Wales Cross Country league, saw us travelling to Lilleshall in Shropshire to represent Colwyn Bay. We picked up Leanne and decided to take a steady drive to the event on what only be described as a glorious day. It's hard to believe that we're in the middle of October when the temperature is at 16 degrees and the sun sits proudly on the horizon.
We decided to take the brown dog with us to offer his support to the club but were devastated to see signs at the entrance banning dogs from the venue! Not to worry Sheelagh (Moore) had taken Spud & mother too, so we threw caution to the wind and put him on a lead.
I was introduced to Isobelle (Redfern) for the first time and also saw Caroline (Harney) and Emma (Parry) were running for Wrexham. It was probably one of the strongest teams that Colwyn Bay had ever fielded and I must admit being a little in awe at the start knowing the Isobel was held in such high esteem by all there.

As the gun went I played catch -up for the first of 2 1/2 laps with Isobel, Emma, Caroline, Marilyn and many others all showing their quick starts. I worked to stay with Isobel for a while before catching Emma on one of the assents. Neale and the brown dog appeared at various locations to show support and encouraged me to sit just behind Marilyn and Caroline in third place. On the final lap I tried to catch them and slowly closed the distance but Marilyn ran a cracking race and I just couldn't quite get there....Marilyn 1st Caroline 2nd and Me 3rd. Izzi also secured a top ten place with Helen, Leanne Vicky and Gemma all scoring great points for Colwyn Bay. The men also ran well with at least 9 guys finishing. The brown dog also managed a circuit of the track and was lapping up all the attention from the athletes who found him to say the least amusing. We finished the day eating a mulitude of cakes and flapjacks, generously provided by Tom and Richard Watson! One last thing..........Ian Smiler decided that he would wear his new trainers to compete....bad idea! I don't think I've ever seen such a painfull looking blister!!!
