What A Week That Was!

Well, that was the week that was! So much happened this week, I don't really know where to start. The regular readers among you, know that my blog is here merely for me to keep a diary of my running and training, but I am going to break with tradition this week to let you know that as of Monday this week...I am officially un-employed! Yep....it's true.
I've worked for the family business for 25 years, or since I was 14...we've had good times and we've had bad times. Last weekend however, saw Neale and I make what was probably the hardest decision of our lives when we decided that enough was enough for the store. Last year saw a steep decline in our business probably attributable to the recent down turn in the economy. We were due to sign a new lease on our building at the beginning of this year but what with the downturn and the need for increased borrowing, we thought, that's it and shut the doors on what was our 25th Anniversary to the day...sad or what?
Well, no not really....this means...a rest....more training...and hopefully time to focus more on the season ahead....The weight off my shoulders is huge and I really believe that now that I don't have to worry about work, I will be able to train in a more relaxed frame of mind. I've been training hard all of this week but towards the end, a little niggle reared its head again and I managed to persuade Andy to investigate. Having done so, he advised me against defending my title at the Chirk 10k today. This in itself breaks with tradition for me because previously, I would have done the event injured and suffered the consequences.

Now though its all change, my focus is the north Wales 10 mile road race championships at the end of the month and I am not about to compromise the last 8 weeks of hard training just for a little bit of vanity at Chirk.
