Well, what can I say? I suppose that an apology won't go very far at all for those of you who read my blog (unlikely as it seems!) The thing is though, the end of 2008 really went from bad to worse with injury and following my selection for the Welsh Masters Cross Country match in Swansea on 15th November, I was unfortunate enough to suffer a stress fracture, This in itself put paid to any hope of competing for the rest of 2008. If that wasnt bad enough, the injury itself wasn't acutally diagnosed until December and in the meantime I had been training on it. AAAArrrggghhh.
In the meantime, I had been referred to a well known local physiotherapist and coach and the main man behind Menai Track and Field Andy Walling. Andy is a respected and well liked guy around the running scene and an accomplished athlete himself, only narrowly missing out on the sub 4 minute mile marker. Andy almost imediately suggested a stress fracture and suggested a visit to the local A&E. Funnily enough they failed to diagnose the problem but I managed to get a referral to the Grosvenor Nuffield hospital. Following the referral, I was given 2 MRi scans and finally after 8 weeks the diagnosis was made.
I'll skip over the following month or so, suffice as to say that Andy took me under his wing and agreed to coach me. The resulting schedules have seen me recover a degree of fitness and also a new training regime. Over the next few entries here, I will elaborate further. Today however, saw me compete in the British Masters Cross Country Championship at Rhuthun school and to my absolute suprise, I managed a top 20 finish and 1st Welsh lady to boot! I am so, so pleased.
I ain't counting those chickens...but all is looking pretty favourable at the moment.......
