North Wales 10 Mile Championship

I've got some serious mileage in again this week and my major concern has been the appearance of some serious blisters! What I don't understand though is why....I am still wearing the same shoes but they appear to have started to wear in quite an unusual place. For the first time ever, I thought that I was going to have to return home after starting a run as the blisters were hurting so badly. This is the second week on the trot that I have managed to get in excess of 70 road miles in but I was getting a little tired towards the end of the week.

Friday saw me with two sessions totalling 15 miles but then I realised that the North Wales 10 mile championships were on Saturday, I thought that I would do it as a training run as I've not done a 10 miler since 2005!

It was the same course as the Helena Tipping 10k run in December, very flat and quite boring really. I was surprised that the conditions were so good and it was also nice to see a contingent of North Wales Road Runners out and about. Marilyn (Kitching) was also there and we enjoyed a great chat both before and after the race..

I had a great run, but paid for my high mileage this week and got very tired after about 5 miles. I managed the first two miles at 5.58 pace but realised that this was maybe a little too fast for 10 miles so I dropped back a little and settled. I saw Neale at 2, 6, 8 and 10 miles and he kept telling me to treat it as a training run and I was glad of the advice. I came home second and managed to secure the V35 10 Mile Championship and even managed a few more quid in the bank with the prize money....Next week I am starting my run up to the Great Manchester run with some faster training sessions. I hope that I can enjoy a few weeks free of any injuries and niggles.
