A last minute decision to do cross country at Oswestry, proved worth when we travelled to take part in the last round of the 2007-08 Majestic league. Despite the injury, Russell had asked that I make the trip for the last round. The weather was absolutely fantastic, with the temperature at about 16 degrees and no wind it could almost have been mid-spring.
The nice weather brought out a class field and Marilyn, seemed to revel in the conditions. I would probably argue that this was the toughest course on the calendar, with stiles to climb over and stream's to negotiate it really tested the stamina of all of the competitors. Marilyn took an early lead and I had decided to do only what was necessary to secure the valuable points that Colwyn Bay needed for the series. I'm glad really because I enjoyed the event so much, knowing that I didn't have to over do the effort considering my injury.
Marilyn eventually sucumbed to the on-form Anna Frost of Wrexham and I trotted-in 5th. We had to make an early exit, to get to Warrington for Lee Pownall's 40th birthday party. I was pleasantly suprised, to find out that I had left without collecting three prizes, including 3rd overall in the championship and also 2nd in the V35 category.
Sunday, saw me take part in the Nick Beer 10k, our club event around the Great Orme. I teamed up with Isobel Redfern prior to the start and we had a girlie chat and nice warm up together. I really wanted to do this event as it was our own and even though I knew I was off form it felt good to line up alongside Issobel, who I've held in high esteem for a long time. Issy got of to a good start and I never managed to close a 30 second gap to her at all during the race. I was very very pleaaed with a 5th overall and 2nd V35 to Isobel.
Im paying for it now though! I am definately having a few weeks off!
