10k Antics On Anglesey

Right up until last week, wasn't sure if I was going to make the trip across to Mona on Anglesey to take part in the Mentor Mon 10k road race. The race forms part of Mentor Mon Marathon and is complimented by a full marathon and a 5k. A couple of the guy's from North Wales Road Runners suggested that they might do it and I was surprised to see at least 7 of the club on the start line for the race.

Neale and I carried out a quick recce the day before and I was quite shocked to see how the course rose and fell along the route. It was very blustery but the thought of Colin Jackson there at the end to present the prizes encouraged me that it would be worth the effort should I be lucky enough to get a result. The entry saw almost three hundred take part and the villages throughout the route were full of people offering their support to all of the runners taking part. I managed to make my way through the field and wanted to keep Dave (Nolan) in my sights and use him to up my pace a little. Surprised myself by finishing 1st Lady and 6Th overall and even managed to beat the ladies course record....In all a good day really and I even got a bunch of flowers from Colin Jackson! I'd like to congratulate Dave Pryce from Eryri Harriers who managed to complete the marathon shaving a full 18 minutes off his previous time....well done Dave!
